I am excited to announce and launch my new collaboration with Blunt Umbrellas!
Creating an umbrella with Blunt has been a dream of mine for a while now. So, when I woke up to an out-of-the-blue email from Blunt you can imagine how thrilled I was.
I designed the Blunt X fortyonehundred umbrella as a reminder of connection; between the rain falling, with the soul in the middle, grounded to the earth below. Fractal patterning allows us to visualise the unbreakable and immense interconnection between humans and nature. A beautiful fusion of art, science, mathematics and people.
If you aren’t already familiar with the brand, Blunt Umbrellas is a globally recognized company, known for its groundbreaking designs, standout brand and select artist collaborations.
Blunt Umbrellas have a signature, innovative, patented design of curved edges that are incredibly strong - no more disposable umbrellas, no more eyeball poking. They have been tested successfully in extreme weathers and come with a global 2-year warranty.
What an enjoyable project to embark on - First I created several artworks and then once the iterative process was rolling, together we chose this free-flowing, fractal-inspired design that was inverted, rotated, mirrored and arranged on the panels.
When we get caught up in our busy lives, are frustrated with the weather, are rushing - the Blunt X fortyonehundred umbrella serves as a reminder of our unbreakable connection with nature, inspiring a calmer perspective and awareness of our existence.
Grounding - Practical - Stylish - Functional - Collectable - Essential
Another part of this collaboration that is a huge honour, is to be alongside Blunt’s previous limited-edition top New Zealand creatives, some of them including Karen Walker, Dick Frizzell, Hayley King aka Flox.
The Blunt x fortyonehundred collaboration is a limited-edition umbrella, launching in North America on the 9th March (available here!) then in New Zealand, Australia and the UK over the next couple of months.
The whole campaign - photography and videography - was shot by award-winning Tofino photographer Paul Levy. The shoot was based in Tofino - idyllic settings of the beach and rainforest here on the west coast of Canada + some additional snowy scenes around British Colombia and Alberta.
A huge thank you to everyone at Blunt Umbrellas; Greig, Jason, Andrew, Mark, Sam, Kathleen, Flora, Tracey, Melis, Michelle and the rest of your team. Thank you Paul Levy for the fantastic photography and videography. Thank you to all the media partners who have helped share the word of this collaboration. Thank you to my family, friends, clients, supporters and followers. Enjoy the umbrella!
