About the Artwork
The Wolf Mandala is a collaborative artwork between Whistler based artist Kate Zessel, and Tofino based artist Lizzie Snow ‘fortyonehundred’. Kate drew the wolf in the middle and Lizzie created it’s wreath of energy. The wolf is a powerful symbol of strength and the female energy. “Wolves and women are relational by nature, inquiring, possessed of great endurance and strength. They are deeply intuitive, intensely concerned with their young, their mate, and their pack. They are experienced in adapting to constantly changing circumstances; they are fiercely stalwart and very brave” - Clarissa Pinkola Estés. Living on the west coast of Canada means coexisting with wolves. They are amazing, elusive and wild. Kate’s dog, Timber, is half-wolf half-dog and it’s amazing to observe their unique relationship. The two artists share the same love and respect for the wildlife that surrounds them and are excited to have worked together to create this artwork.
